Triangle by Night
Hey everybody, welcome to my very imaginatively named game “Triangle by Night.” Anyway, this intro page is just to give some basic info on the setting and character generation & advancement rules for reference.
Our game takes place in the Triangle area; which aside from the core counties of Durham, Orange, and Wake, also includes Chatham, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Johnston, Lee, Moore, Person, Vance, and Warren counties. Greensboro and Winston Salem also feature in our setting at a later time.
The player characters are all newly turned vampires, under the thumbs of sires and elders and being introduced to vampiric society. Your sires have given you basic background on the main 13 clans and 3 sects, the most common disciplines, and elementary information on local vampiric society.
Background Setting Information
Since colonial times, the Triangle Area was a strong Camarilla enclave. Until 20 years ago when the Toreador Prince Bastion Day went mad and committed suicide. His childe, Carolyn LaChance, although only a vampire for 16 years at that point, somehow managed to finagle control of the realm. Under her hedonistic, laissez-faire leadership the domain split until LaChance could only control Raleigh and its immediate, smaller neighbors.
Various factions took advantage of the situation. Viktor Kaminsky, already Regent of the Tremere Chantry located at UNC, declared Chapel Hill & Carrboro an independent Camarilla domain and named himself Prince. The Sabbat sent raiding parties into Durham, taking the city against little effective resistance. One Sabbat war party remained, the Indian Country Social Club, led by the maniacal Malkavian Crazier Horse. Not long after, in the late 90s, several Triangle Area Anarchs pooled resources and staged a political & financial coup of Durham city, establishing an independent Anarch domain run on principles of collective organization and unanimity. They do not currently have the strength to kick the Sabbat out entirely and so the two remain in uneasy coexistence.
Character Generation and House Rules
—As newly minted vampires, no vampire-specific backgrounds may be purchased at character creation. These include: Black Hand Membership, Domain, Herd, Retainers, Rituals, & Status.
—No character can begin play with more than two dots in a single Discipline. The 3 default Discipline points must be spent on Clan Disciplines. Non-Clan Disciplines may only be purchased with freebie points. Caitiff characters choose 3 Disciplines at character generation that this rule applies to.
—Attributes and Abilities may not start higher than 3. Only Freebie Points may be spent to raise them above 3. A character’s Primary Attribute group pretty much requires that one of your Attributes be 4, so disregard this rule in that case.
—Players may only select up to 7 points worth of Flaws. Merits are unlimited as long as you have the points to buy them.
—Players will receive XP rewards at the end of each game. Finishing a game is an automatic 1 XP. Finishing a story arc is an automatic 1 XP. Other XP rewards for individual acts like heroism, learning curve, danger, wisdom, or roleplaying will be awarded to the entire group instead of individual players. It is a lot easier to be fair that way because I don’t have to weigh individual players against each other.
—Character Advancement will be handled through Obsidian Portal (OP). Everyone’s Character will have a Wiki page for purposes of tracking stats, important info, etc. Whenever a player wishes to spend experience, they must message me through OP detailing what they want to spend experience on. I will then reply either with approval or questions. Either way, once I approve you are free to update your Character Sheet and OP Wiki page with the agreed upon XP expenditures. This rule is mainly for organizational purposes, but as I am not uptight I reserve the right to disregard this rule and approve minor XP expenditure requests in person whenever.
